WAKO
With barely a pause on Sunday 12th May, tournament number 2 of the weekend was commencing. The WAKO GB Euro Junior Cup held in Birmingham, kickboxing was the discipline this time.
Demi, Sky and Harry were entered for this competition. In the Under 6 years Points Fighting category was Harry Hancox.
Here did a great job making it through to the final. This was scheduled for 2 x 1 minute 30 second rounds and after this time scores were level. So a nail biting 30 seconds were added to the clock. Harry just missed out on the Gold but took an impressive Silver with 6-4 final score.
Sky Barnett had her toughest test yet in continuous sparring, giving away 20cms in height and a year in age ! With the scores changing until the final seconds, Sky won Bronze.
Demi lost out in the continuous, but regained her composure in the points fighting battling to the final, and then winning an impressive Gold.
Sky was last fighter on the mat, she faced her victor from the earlier match. After two rounds of close and skillful fighting, extra time was awarded. 60 seconds more added to the closest of fights. This too ended in a draw and with tensions running high it was now sudden death first point wins. With the team cheering her on Sky scored and picked up the last medal of the day.... Gold!
